Easter at Southlands

Table of Content

Easter is a holiday that is so heavily defined by its imagery. It evokes images of bunnies, egg hunts, chocolate, and the Cross. While these are all really fun aspects of Easter, what holds heaviest and what is truly meaningful is the message of the Cross. At its core, Easter is a celebration of Jesus Christ coming down from Heaven to save us from our sins.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

This motivation came from God’s love for us. He could not bear to let us die to our sins, so He came down as Jesus, a man, to take our place. The difference was that He was perfect and sinless and undeserving of death. His sacrifice was a gift to the world that we may have a chance of eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Each year at Southlands, we celebrate Easter with a special chapel service. Students, teachers, and staff alike gather to make this a time of remembrance for Jesus’ death and resurrection.

This year’s Easter chapel for middle and high school will feature a time of worship led by Mr. Mejia and his band, a performance from our ensemble, Faithful Heart, and skits from our Disciple Makers ministry. We are also pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Hazen from Biola University will be sharing a special message with us.

We are excited to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with everyone in the Southlands family and hope that the joy of Christ will fill each home this season.
