Southlands 8th Grade/11th Grade DC Trip: Blog 2

Mr. David Gantt is our guest blogger of the week, as he checks in from Washington DC during the 8th/11th Grader’s trip. Below is a recounting of the end of the trip!

    —–

On our last day in the nation’s capital, our students toured the 3 branches of government and learned about the importance of our checks
and balances system. We started with the Supreme Court, made our way over to Capitol Hill, and finished the hat-trick off with the White
House. A group of students also got to tour inside the White House where we walked in the footsteps of every man to be elected President.
Another group went to the top of the Washington Monument and viewed DC in a way that is rarely seen. We had a pleasant surprise when our
congressman Ed Royce, who is the 39th district (including Rowland Heights) representative, met us on the House steps for a quick talk, meet and greet, and photo op.

Here is his tweet about our meeting:

Lastly, our final stop was the sobering Holocaust Museum and Memorial where students paid respects to the countless men, women, and children who lost their lives 70+ years ago. We are so proud of our Eagles for handling themselves with integrity and excellence this entire week. Everywhere we went, people commented on how well-behaved and polite they all were. Thank you for another successful trip. Looking forward to the next one.
