Transplant: Spiritual Explosion 2015

    Spiritual Explosion

When we think of explosions, we often envision fireworks or other loud and spectacular visuals. The lights and sounds accompanying explosions aren’t easily forgotten. At Spiritual Explosion, we hope to accomplish the same lasting impact on our students – a life changed by the spectacular presence of God.

Every year, middle school and high school students spend three days at camp on a retreat. The change of scenery from the busyness of homework and due dates allows us to meet with God and encounter Him in a fresh, exciting new way. Whether this is the sixth time or the first, we pray that it will be a fun-filled week of bonding with fellow students, teachers, and a chance to learn a ton!

Take a look at this passage from the Bible that coincides with this year’s camp theme:

In these verses, we read about an Israel that was in trouble. They had given themselves to false gods and had fallen into all kinds of sin – in other words, they were a mess. They continually rebelled against God, so He punished them according to His covenant by removing them from the land.

But God provided a solution for Israel’s problem: a “spiritual transplant.” Here in Ezekiel, we find that He promised to remove their spiritually dead hearts and give them spiritual life – a brand-new, beating, living heart. He did this by giving them his Spirit so that they might know Him, love him, and be His people. He promised to bring them back to the land and bless them. This kind of transformation and encounter with God is what we pray for the students. That is is why we named this year’s camp “Transplant.”

We believe that this spiritual transplant is the same kind that Jesus offers us in John 3, when He says that all people must be born again from above in order to enter the kingdom of God. It is a spiritual transformation that God offers to men, women, and children of every nation and that includes us! If we simply put our trust in Jesus, we will be saved.

Our prayer at Southlands is that we all can experience this anew or for the very first time these upcoming weeks.

    See you at camp!
