Changing Lives

Merry Christmas Southlands family,

We are excited to show you the first video in our new series centered on excellence at our schools. Throughout the next year, we will be releasing several mini-documentary pieces focusing on what makes Southlands unique; showing how we train the leaders, scientists, and artists of tomorrow.

As a team, we have been exploring what makes SCS stand out in the LA basin, and one factor we keep on returning to is excellence. We find excellence in our students’ test scores, which blow past National and State averages. This translates to our 80-87% acceptance rate at UC schools, and it doesn’t stop there! As a school, we have been seeking excellence in athletics and in the arts. The emphasis in the athletics program has been building programs led by Godly coaches who are winners by nature and want to disciple the next generation through athletics.  We have witnessed many students excel in their respective sports, but more importantly, we’ve seen their character as student-athletes be solidified. Last year, we hosted our first Art Gala and saw our students thriving in song, dance, and art. Not to be forgotten, this would be impossible without our outstanding, passionate teachers and staff.

Today, we’re releasing the first video in this series called “Changing Lives.” Mrs. Audrey Stith and her 3rd-grade class have been working through our new moral development program, and they share the personal impact it has had. We are seeing elementary discipline going down from 3-4 times a day to 1-2 cases per week. The results of this program are very evident, but don’t take my word for it; Mrs. Stith and the third graders say it better than we ever could.
