meet middle school teacher Mr. David Cronk

This Monday, we would like you to meet the middle school teacher, Mr. David Cronk. He has been teaching for 20 years, and this is his fourth year at Southlands Christian Schools.

Mr. Cronk teaches many subjects, which include Advanced ELL Bible, Advanced ELL Reading, Intermediate ELL Writing and Reading, and Beginning ELL Reading. When asked what was his favorite subject to teach, Mr. Cronk commented, “I like teaching them all, and I enjoy the variety of levels I get to teach, but perhaps Bible is my favorite because it has so much eternal significance, and at the advanced level, students can ask many important life questions.”

His favorite Bible verse is John 10:10, which says, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.”

When asked to give us one word to describe Southlands, Mr. Cronk responded, “World-class.”

“How would you describe your students?” we asked.

    “Unprecedented,” Mr. Cronk said.

There is a saying that the happiest people on earth are not people who have a lot but people who are thankful, and Mr. Cronk is a very thankful person. We rarely see him without a bright, genuine smile on his face. Indeed, Mr. Cronk is giving thanks to God for his “faith, family, a job, and a home.”

Finally, we asked Mr. Cronk to share three fun facts about himself. Here they are:

    1. During the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Mr. Cronk was the equipment coordinator for the soccer
      venue at the Rose Bowl.
    2. Mr. Cronk once hiked through a part of the Amazon Jungle and swam with piranha and caiman.
    3. Mr. Cronk taught English in China for almost 20 years in Guangzhou, Qingdao, Changchun, Changsha, and Kunming.

Want to hear more about these fun facts? Stop by room 75 to say “Hello!” to Mr. Cronk!
