Meet Our Staff: “Mrs. Lorraine” Smith

Table of Content

There is a famous saying that a journey of a million miles begins with a single step. That single step for Southlands Christian Schools’ Preschool Director, Mrs. Lorraine Smith, started twenty-seven years ago as a young girl helping her mother at Christian Chapel Preschool. Although the work was challenging and required a lot of patience, young Lorraine fell in love working with young children. This passion drove her to enroll in Early Education coursework upon her high school graduation.

Starting her career as an assistant in the classroom, she quickly moved into becoming teacher one year later. When asked about one of her favorite things about Southlands, she ecstatically replied, “This is truly my second home! I love that I get to share my faith and love for Jesus to all who enter!” She went on to explain, “One of my favorite things is when a seed is planted in a ‘little lamb’. Sometimes you get to see the whole family come to Jesus because of it. God is so good!”

Although looking from the outside, it may seem that working with preschool children is all fun and games, rest assured it is not always the case. It takes a special kind of person with love, patience, kindness, and understanding to connect with both the students and their families. Nevertheless, there are many funny moments that leave her and the staff breathless.

“Working with the two year olds is comedy itself. I cannot recall a time when I was not laughing with the children. I absolutely love my job!”

To Director Smith, or Mrs. Lorraine as she is known around campus, being Southlands Strong means upholding the strong values and beliefs we have here at school. It also means sharing them with friends, family, and the community.  To her, Southlands equals family!

Thank you, Mrs. Lorraine, for always having a smile and proving that the joy of the Lord really is our strength.
