Driving around can bring a new perspective to someone’s situation, and that is exactly what happened to Southlands Christian Schools’ Elementary and Middle School Principal, Mrs. Sue Yoon. She found our Southlands family by driving around Southern California looking for the best preschool for her son, over twenty years ago.  Like most parents, the Yoons wanted to ensure that their child would be nurtured with a Christ-centered education that cultivated academic excellence. Mrs. Yoon’s background as a 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade teacher gave her a unique insight into contemporary education.  After teaching at Southlands, she eventually became Vice-Principal of the Elementary school that further enlightened her understanding of the various levels on campus.

Her favorite aspect of SCS is the daily opportunity available to save, touch and change the lives of students for Jesus. Mrs. Yoon sees God moving daily through the students as they learn, grow and change. This year, she is looking forward to building relationships with new Southlands families, staff and faculty. Her favorite event on campus is and has always been the First Day of School. She said as students arrive, it’s incredible to see the energy, excitement, hope, and anticipation that happens when our faculty and administration team ‘meet and greet’ families.

When asked about what it meant to “Stay Southlands Strong”, she responded, “It means staying and living in the Word of God; not losing focus in His calling.” Continuing, she added, “ We pray for students’ wellbeing: academically, emotionally, mentally, socially, physically, and most of all, spiritually!” Her scripture for this year can be found in Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

We are grateful to Mrs. Yoon for the great work she’s done since becoming a valuable member of our Southlands community.
